Imagine how great life can be when the opinions of others have no bearing on who you are and how you see yourself. That is true freedom!
This Valentine’s day, we’re having Cupid shake things up a little! While romance and chocolates may still be on the menu, we are adding another item to the mix: self-love.
The Gifts of Imperfection is a book by Brene Brown that has earned a tidy spot of prime real estate on our bookshelf as it provides a fresh and insightful take on how one can get back to being who they truly are. Brown provides thoughtful and provocative suggestions on what it takes to truly be happy and at peace within our complicated world. From letting go of others’ expectations and embracing your imperfections to living life the way you want to live it, within 10 Guideposts this book offers plenty of wisdom, eloquent inspiration, and actionable advice.
Since this book has lots of wisdom to impart, we are going to share what we love about it over a series of posts.
For our Valentine’s day theme, here is the first inspirational nugget:
Let go of what people think of you.
On Page xii, Brene Brown writes:
“People may call what happens at midlife ‘a crisis’ but it’s not. It’s an unraveling – a time when you are challenged by the universe to let go of who you think you are supposed to be and instead, embrace who you are.”
There are billions of people on this planet. What is truly remarkable is that out these billions of people, nobody is like you. Regardless of whichever stage you’re at in life, you are one of a kind and that uniqueness is worthy of celebration. How often do we try to fit in (at the expense of expressing who we truly are)? At Zenituals, we are all about practicing intentional living, so we love the passage above. When you are authentically being the person who you were put on this planet to be you flourish. So, go ahead and reconnect with all the wonderful things about you that make you one in a billion. And then, the best part: share all these beautiful things about you with the world.
